Drawn in the dirt or across one's breast or even on a wall by the Sicarii
(Sicariots) [Assassins] who ~always~ traveled in pairs.
*Even Paul and Barnabas!
It is widely believed that the "twelve Disciples" were Nazarene Sicarri and
that Judas (Iscariot) is a transliteration mistake:
[I]scariot] nee: [S]icariot.
So Judas (Iscariot) becomes Juda [Maccabeus], ~the~ Sicarri or; Judas
Maccabeus****, the Assassin
****Judas is believed to be a direct descendent of the famous Maccabees, the
family who for a time, through revolution, ruled Israel from 167 BCE to the
time of Herod, himself a Maccabee descendant.
The implications of course be carried forward in that the so-called
"Disciples" [Sicarri] always traveled in pairs and upon coming to a known**
Sicarri home, where, upon knocking, and being greeted, made the sign in the
dirt, on their shirts or on the doorposts.
*The Sicarri were only acting in the long held traditions of local sedition
toward Rome by the Israelites, still being led by local Maccabees. Judas, as
one of the more intemperate of the local (Galilean)**+ Sicarri, and being hot
headed, is believed to have been one of the main plotters in an uprising
planned to coincide with the annual gathering of Pilgrims in Jerusalem
(originally Jebu Salem) [city of Peace] during the festival.
**Remember Jesus' caution to them that they only go to certain homes while
traveling?
**+During the Festival and celebration, the remnants of the "Twelve tribes of
Israel" would gather, each in a different place surrounding the city, only
going down to the city to participate in the Festival and prayers. Otherwise
they stayed in their assigned places. "The Galilee," a region of land which
included Nazareth*, was itself a remnant of the Northern Kingdom of Israel.
Known for its traditional antagonism toward the South, "The Galilee" supplied
many willing bodies for the Sicarri movement.
*It is now known there was no town or village named "Nazareth," only a place
where Pilgrims and locals gathered to use a large well. "The Nazareth" was
also host to two main roads that crossed there: the road climbing the slopes
up from the Mediterranean Sea and the "King's Highway" that traversed from
north to south, connecting Damascus and points south on its way into Egypt.
Jesus, by insisting on keeping to ~his~ foreordained holiday plans, angered
Juda by first denying he was this King Judas was expecting, but for now
throwing off the timing of the larger plan and because Jesus was keeping
~him~ from announcing the "Revolution" from within the group as they
traversed Jerusalem on their way to Temple.
We all know the rest of the story.
