You seem to be missing the point.  I've already said that film would work
better if they just wanted to take a few rolls.  However, they want a
digital camera, possibly for the immediacy of the results, the fun of
being able to show their photos to people after taking them, etc.
They'll be fine with a p&s digital that uses AAs.  If they bring along a
512MB card, they'll have about 250 3MP shots, or around 400 2MP shots, if
all they want are 4x6's.  This will be plenty for the person who, as you
say, wants to document an exotic trip with a p&s camera.  If they want to,
they can even bring an extra smaller card as a back-up.  If digital gets
them taking more photos, so much the better!  Bring a back-up card, or buy
one if you run out, or have them put onto a CD.  And yes, Herb, there
really are CD burners in India.
