This has been my puzzle too. Why would one be interested in pixel
count unless it involved print? It has been shown that with some
mastery of digital dark room one can produce 30x40 (**cm!**) prints
from 6 MP cameras which were exhibition quality. I've visited one such
exhibition myself and, well, because I am not as well versed in the
craft as other guild members, I couldn't say it was digital until I
was told just so.

It seems to me that given more pixels (a.k.a. recorded information)
one has more room for PhotoShop trickery. In fact, it seems the only
reason why I think pixel count does matter somewhat. Especially so if
one is studying, say composition. Given more pixels there're more
possible ways to crop.

Just my one hundreds of your favorite currency.
