Well, if you get a Miata, you'll have a reliable "British sports car". That's the upside and the downside. You'll get a lot of the "British sports car" experience (minus Lucas electronics and oil wherever it goes) but the bugger will be pretty darned reliable, so you won't have anything you have to work on most of the time. But there's plenty of aftermarket stuff for them, up to turbos. Or you could stuff a small block V8 in it (most people who do this seem to use Fords for some reason, usually a 302 or 5.0).
