Unless you have a lot of experience of lighting and this type of portraiture (which I guess you don't, otherwise you wouldn't be asking), you should keep it simple. Try to use available (preferably natural) light if you can, and see if you can get away with producing black and whites so you needn't worry about colour casts. You might find Jane Bown's work interesting. She has been one of the UK's top portrait photographers for many years, but uses a very simple set up - 2 Olympus OM1s, 2 rolls of Tri-X, 1/60th at 2.8 indoors. I can't find out what lenses she uses, but the pictures look like a 50mm and an 85mm or thereabouts.
