I must admit that when I use to use Olympus OM-1 and Pentax MX cameras, I always replaced the screen in them for a plain matte one. I find the focusing aids get in the way for me. That is probably one reason I like the *istD for focusing and you don't. I find the matte in it to be quite reasonable to focus with.
