I don't think an 8 megapixel digital SLR is a feeble hope. I'd say it's a certainty. Naming it LX is indeed a feeble hope. The name "LX" was chosen in honor of Asahi's 60th anniversary. There's no logic in using that numeral again.
Now, about this price. It makes sense to introduce a new version at a list price close to that of the existing model. It's very newness will cause some to buy. I'm sure the price to retailers leaves a lot of wiggle room. The DL will probably be deeply discounted within weeks. The gap will grow. List prices don't matter. Only wholesale prices tell the story.
