You must be kidding? To someone on a tight budget where 30 EUR really

It has nothing to do with my or anyones elses wealth, it has
to do with ONLY buyers of 700EUR cameras and TO THOSE people
30eur will never be signifigant on the purchase.
Damn, I cant believe anyone would even argue this...

That's because you are finding it difficult to believe you are wrong. Which you are. You remind me of the guy I met in Poland in 1991, who proudly told me that the six or seven year old Audi he had just bought had cost him more then a new one. New ones were unavailable but he had gone and bought one anyway. His logic was unassailable, too.

I think you're short sighted. You are only seeing things through your
rich, American eyes and narrow perspective. In other parts of the
world, and to those on limited or tight budgets, the amount of money may
well be a factor. Plus, not everyone is going to want all the features
of the more expensive unit, so why pay extra for them. The lower priced
model will be sufficient, even if it's lower by what YOU consider an
insignificant amount. I just love it how well-off people cannot
understand the needs and limitations of those with tighter monetary
constraints or the desire to spend less for a product even if they can
afford to spend more. And stop your friggin' shouting.

I think Shel is missing the point, to ANYONE buying a 700EUR item, 30EUR is NEVER a big difference. i.e. if you can afford the 700EUR camera, then 30EUR isnt going to be signifigant. If 30EUR is a big deal to someone, and Im sure to plently it is, THEY ARENT GOING TO BE BUYING 700EUR DSLRs!

I don't recall the price difference between the spotmatic
and SP500 but if it was say $30, that was 30 years ago
when $30 was a lot more money, like $100 today and that
was on $250 items , not $800 items like the pentax DSLR.

There are people who have tighter budgets than you, to whom 30EUR means more or is harder to come by. When I bought my first camera $10.00 made a difference. Now I spend $10.00 on a cup of coffee and a

croissant.

Years ago Pentax offered a Spotmatic 500 - only difference between it and a regular Spotmatic was the top shutter speed. The price difference was not very much, but it made a big enough difference to some people that they bought the 500 instead.

You can't judge or guess the needs of others only by your standards and those in your socio-economic group.

I am not sure if I am getting your idea, Shel.

If I am ready to spend at least 700 EUR in a camera
(and I am not including memory card, batteries, etc) I can't see why

just a 4% more is going to prevent me from buying a better model.

Maybe you are referring to those who care about
absolute figures only? Even in that case, it still
seems too low to make any difference.

I have just checked the ist DL price in tekade.de, since it is still not available in Spain. Well, it is 699 EUR body only, this is just 30 EUR less than the DS body only so...
Who is going to buy a downgraded model for such a
small difference???
