i don't know about Sharpie in general, but certain ink formulae can eat
through the protective coating on the back. it's not plastic and highly
vulnerable.

I recently read the stand alone statement; "..if you
write on CD labels, do not use a Sharpie". Anyone have
an idea why? This is not a test.
I really don't know any better and have done it many
times. Actually, my discs do not have labels.
