Hi Tom,

You could ask for a 100% refund as you stated and return the item or you
could contact the seller and explain that the holder was not in the
described condition and ask for a small partial refund. If I wanted to keep
the holder then I would probably ask for the later or just accept like it
is.

As for the shipping, don't you just hate it when that happens. Good
packaging should be a given, but some people just don't understand what good
packaging consists of. I got a microscope recently that I had purchased on
Ebay and it was shipped unbagged in Styrofoam peanuts (they could have
easily put it into a garbage bag for protection). It took me over an hour to
clean out all of the Styrofoam fragments from the scope. My solution was to
leave a neutral feedback statement stating "Please don't pack a microscope
in Styrofoam peanuts without bagging it first." hoping that it would
persuade the seller to do better next time.
