Hello!
I am looking for a decently priced alternative to FA*AL 2/24mm, and the new
lenses from Sigma look promising (priced at around 65% of Pentax 2/24 is 1.
8/24mm Sigma). Apart from optical quality (anybody has any info on this lens?),
what is the build quality of Sigma EX line (compared to Pentax FA* lenses AND
to Pentax FA/F lenses)
I ask because I had some bad experience with 3rd party lenses
turning wobbly after time of heavier use, resulting in loss of performance.
These Sigma EX 1.8 aperture wides (BTW, 1.8/20mm is priced at LESS than FA*
2/24mm!) are pretty light, made propably from lots of plastic. I am afraid the
focusing mount or whatever will loosen over time, especially if there are any
impacts or force on the lens hood, which mounts onto it. And these are pretty
common in my reportage work (as much as I try to be gentle on my equipment,
others don't... e.g. police, demonstrators, crowds,...), where this lens would
be used.
So, anybody has experience with Sigma EX lenses (or ATX AF lenses from Tokina.
I had worse experience with newer Tamrons) performance over years of heavier
use?
And what about FA lenses (plain FA, not FA*) ? I would maybe go for the FA
35/2 (selling my F 1.4/50 LN/MINT, so if anybody's interested...), but what's
its build quality?
I like my lenses to last long, longer than me (I use a 70 years old Rolleiflex
Standard with success, it's a very nice camera which will last another 70
years, but certainly not outlast me, I plan to grow very old <g>)
