it produces some outstanding results, and focusses down to 18"

Sorry, but, let's face it, on film at least 28-105 is extremely useful
range; I actually prefer the 35-135 range, have you seen the SMC-F?
Its shortcoming is long focusing, but it has a "macro" at 135.
