Say, anyone using the Gimp for their image manipulations?

Yes, I've used it a bit. And I rather like it. Especially version 2, which actually seems to be able to handle the images we generate where I work... (Oh no, he's boasting about his large images again...) I suspect that GIMP is a lot better than PhotoShop in this area, i.e. memory management. I mean, I haven't used PS much, but when people here and other places talk about how you need gigabytes of memory to work with images as *small* as the ones a digital camera generates... GIMP, on the other hand, is with 512 or 256Mb somewhat slow at opening the 500Mb ++ images I throw at it, but it *works*...

This is a pet peeve of mine, of course. I've always been thinking that assuming that you can keep the full image in memory is just plain dumb. Of course, doing it has become more realistic over the years, but I don't think we have reached the stage where software developers can stop caring about how they use the memory (nor am I sure we ever will)...

But I digress. I really only wanted to mention that I'm also a GIMP user (and sometimes, but very rarely a developer)...
