I don't know where you are coming from, but remember the US is a BIG place and distances might be greater than what you are used to. Bear in mind. You may not have enough time to see everything, but if you spend most of your 3 weeks in the Southwest you can see an awful lot.

hehe, good observation. My homeland, Slovakia, is certainly not big country, not even moderately sized I would say. You can drive through entire country in just about 5-6 hours. And this is the longer dimension. ;-)

As you said, we are renting a car (from Alamo - I have no experience regarding rent-a-car business so I hope it's a reliable company). I will certainly welcome any suggestions for our itinerary - on my trips I often found less known (among tourists) places that turned out to unforgettable experience.
