Peter, Do Yosemite Valley! You will be there when some fall may be happening and the falls should still be great. A combination not to be missed. (suggest staying in El Portal, outside the park on Hwy 140). Quite a drive between Yosemite and Monument Valley, but if you can manage it, do.(stay at Goulding's Lodge just across the hwy). In route check out Zion Canyon. World class scenery.(stay in Springdale). Skip: Las Vegas (tacky carnival), Route 66 (hard to grasp and non-scenic). Bryce is geologically interesting, but I wouldn't go far out of my way to shoot at it again. Natural Bridges is a pass, as are Canyonlands and Capitol Reef. Arches, however, is conveniently and easily shot, yielding some typical western, fairly spectacular, formations.(stay in Moab). If you're absolutely set on photographing a city, San Francisco is it. Must be done from the Marin Headlands north of the Golden Gate Bridge. If you want, I'll try to get answers to any questions you may have. No, I'm not a Travel Agent. ;-) Hope this helps.
