It took the *ist D almost a year from announcement to stores. The 5D was
only a matter of a couple of months.....
That has more to do with Canon's manufacturing prowess than anything else.
Pentax is a small company with limited resources.
Canon is a large company willing to put unlimited resources into buying
whatever market they choose to go after.
If Pentax offers a new body at PMA, with a fall release date (more or less
how the istD was released, IIRC), they will be three years between major
technological improvements on their camera body product.
That's actully not bad for a small lens maker, though it is very slow for
the market they are competing against..
