Shel & Godfrey, though - both photographers who demand a lot
of control over their cameras - are happy with the one wheel
(and a shift button) style of control. The larger screen,
and the smaller RAW files, are other benefits of the DS models.

I personally prefer the simpler control layout of the DS over the two- wheel approach of the D and many other cameras. While a two-wheel approach *can* be better, how it is implemented makes a big difference.

As I mentioned in another thread, I bought a Sony DSC-R1 recently. Whomever designed this camera did a fantastic job on the control layout ... it is very very good. It uses two wheels and puts them in the right places, gives direct access to most anything important, and proves to be "just right" ergonomically.

Back to the DS ... I don't think it's perfect, but it's darn good. The biggest thing I'd like to see as an improvement is customizable Fn menu options. I rarely either touch white balance or flash mode (since I ordinarily capture in RAW format), it would be great if I could move the meter pattern to one of those menus. I'd likely use Spot pattern a bit more often if it were there. Similarly, the switch for AF-S vs AF-C, now available on a Menu, would also be a good choice to put on an Fn selection for faster access.

But these are small issues to me.

Godfrey
