Luddites, Techno-Weenies every one of us!
Introduce the child to the thrill of caputuring the moment in time.
Intorduce them to caputuring the wonders of the world around them. When they
learn to enjoy that, they will have the motivation to get all the important
'principles of photography'.
When my 22 year old son was 4 or 5, I took him to Helix in downtown Chicago.
They were having a big sale on autofocus cameras and I sat him on the counter
and bought him a TEC 55?, a $45 Vivitar autofocus point-n-shoot. The
salesman had a rather quizical look on his face, like you can't really mean
to do this can you? I did the same with my other 2 kids and my 16 year old
daughter's eye is probably the best of them all.
All three of them can handle a Super Program and capture good images, well
exposed, well focused, and well composed. Two of the three enjoy doing it
for themselves. We'll see where it goes later in their lives.
Technique you can teach, art and enjoyment are more difficult! <g>
