Bob, you'd find any time between April and September to be pretty comfortable: warm by some standards, temperatures in Brisbane around the range 12 at night to 25 during the day, and generally dry and sunny. October/November it begins to get noticeably warmer, up here at least! Down south, it's a little cooler, with temperatures in Sydney and Melbourne often dropping to about freezing overnight.

Are you thinking of touring the country or basing yourself(ves) in one major city and travelling out daily?

Most people think that North Queensland, around Cairns, is pretty good tourist country, with the Great Barrier Reef very accessible, and some spectacular rainforest and high table-land country close by. Brisbane itself is not a terrific tourism location, although if you are into fishing and beach stuff then the Gold Coast, (for sun, surf and sand) and Moreton Bay, (for fishing and it's islands), are close by. We can also arrange close encounters with koalas, kangaroos, emus and crocodiles - snakes, spiders and scorpions are less manageable!

If you should come to Queensland (at least the lower bit!), let me know and we can arrange to meet.

Subject: Australia and New Zealand trip

A fringe benefit at my employer is an 8 week sabbatical every 10
years. I've been thinking of spending 3 weeks 'down under'. You
folks have convinced me it gets damned hot in Australia during your
summer, so I've been thinking of spring. And all those great pictures
of New Zealand have me wanting to go there as well.

My calculations have centered on sometime in September or October,
maybe even November, but I thought I'd ask for advice. Great scenery
and good photo opportunities are desired... plus I want to hear people
talk funny!!! :-)

Any advice as to time and places.

Regards, Bob S.
