There was a rumor floating just after PMA this year, that Pentax would
aim to compete with the highest priced offerings in the 35mm market.
Which at that time was the Canon 1DsMkII. I didn't check USA prices
back then, but Norwegian retail price for the Canon at that time was
around NOK 70.000,- (using the dot as thousands separator.). Since
then, the Canon offering has come down to about half of that figure,
so I suppose it's no longer a valid comparison. The Mamiya ZD
currently sells for NOK 78.000,-. I would expect the Pentax 645D to
come in somewhere between 60.000,- and 70.000,-.

With the current exchange rate, that's 10.000-11.000 USD. I suppose
the US prices will creep well below that mark. Maybe 8.000,-?
