The photosites only record intensity, but each photosite is fitted with an R, G or B filter. So the sensor is captures 6 million pixels of intensity data divided between R, G and B channels. The spatial resolution is the number of pixels, the chroma resolution is the interpolation of RGB values over the matrix of pixels. > On the DS I've only used AV, TV, and Manual.
