AFAIK, that's not completely correct.  You program in the focal length of
older, lenses, but the newer lenses (F and later - maybe even A) tell the
camera what the focal length is.  My _guess_ is that if you're using an
older zoom, you'd want to advise the camera of the focal length just as you
would with an older prime lens.
