F&^%%ng A-hole. Leica M is a RF camera, not a SLR. You are not
Viewing or focusing thru the lens so it doesn't matter
Whether the lens is stopped down or not for those functions. With an
SLR,
Which is what the M42 lenses are used on and what
We were specifically talking about, you have
To focus and view thru the lens and it's dimmer
And with much more DOF when stopped down, so it's harder and slower
To focus accurately compared to wide open, especially with good fast
lenses.
DUH.

Secondly, even if he wasn't using the viewfinder and had some
Sort of sport finder in the hot shoe and used the DOF
And scale focussed there wouldn't be anything to be gained
By leaving the lens stopped down because the camera
Shutter operates just as fast with the lens wide open
As it does already stopped down.

Its all bullshit, from both you and him.

You ignoramus ... there are times when shooting stopped down that
there's
no need to focus. That is one of the reasons for shooting stopped down.

In fact, a lot of Leica M shooters still shoot that way. I certainly
do.
It's just a simple matter of knowing what the acceptable depth of field
is
@ any given aperture with the focal length of the lens you're using.
Once
you understand such basics, you can shoot while moving, with no need to
even break stride in some instances.

I've posted numerous pics here shot in just that manner. And before you
call me a liar, let tell you that there are people here who are reading
this thread of gone out shooting with me and seen me do it.
