I've lived seven years in the 'boonies', 22 miles from town, nearest neighbor a 5 minute walk. Not remote in my mind, but definitely way out in others' minds. I've threatened a bear once with my Mighty Mag flashlight and know that there are mountain lions and an occasional wolf prowling close by. I suppose I could come across a time when I wish I might have one, but so far common sense and two dogs are enough. To my way of thinking, I'd feel far more threatened by the most dangerous predator on the planet, man, especially when found in high concentration. I'm sure statistics bear this out. The damage done by firearms surely outweighs the good that has come about by them, in any case.
