Having decided to do some test shots (to be posted later today), comparing the image quality of the *ist D and the K10D, I drove to the seaside and put my beloved (and now unfortunately disscontinued) SMC Pentax FA* 2.8/80-200mm ED IF zoom lens on a tripod.
After mounting the K10D body on the lens, I bagan sooming to an appropirate focal length for a panorama series of the coastal line. That's when I heard the once so well known, but now almost forgotten, spinning sound of a zoom-motor!!! What do you know - the K10D supports Power Zoom! I was pleasantly surprised. I had absolutely NO idea. I must admit that I always loved this feature, even though I can easily manage without it. I wonder if Pentax is planning to introduce new power zoom lenses - or is this just a service to those of us, who still own good old Pentax zoom lenses from the Z-days, which I believe started 15 years ago with the realease of the Z-1 (PZ-1)?
