Hi Frank, Hope you don't mind - I had a go at a B & W conversion too. I used Noiseware to take care of the noise, and used Picture Window Pro to extract luminance, for this - http://picasaweb.google.com/petergly/OnePhoto/photo#5103359639462043442. I don't use photoshop - too complex and expensive for me.
