Where are you going & what's your laptop got hardware wise.

On my overseas trips earlier in the year all I brought was the laptop
& power supply/cord. (Make sure you have the correct plug adapter for
whichever country you visit)

The hotels I stayed at (1 in China, 2 in Canada & 1 in the U.S.) all
had internet connections in the room. All I had to do was plug in the
rooms supplied ethernet cable. I didn't worry about email applications
& did everything via webmail. Some of the newer hotels are all
wireless too.
