Canon has no wides which can compete with either the A or FA 20/2.8's or the DA 21 Limited, no good 28mm design (both the 28/2.8 and 28/1.8 USM's are mediocre to bad), their 50's other than the extremely expensive 50 f1.2L are average at best (and the Canon 50mm f1.4 USM is both nearly twice the cost as the FA 50mm f1.4 and twice the size) and Canon offers no decent quality consumer normal zoom for digital (Pentax offers the excellent 16-45, Canon's 17-85 IS's only real advantage over the kit 18-55 is range and IS, their new IS 18-55 kit lens is optically better). Canon offers some superb lenses, but they're very weak on wides in particular. Pentax offers far less lenses, but also offers effectively no poor performers. Even Pentax's two kit lenses are notably better than average.
Outside of the L series, Canon only offers a few good lenses. -Adam On Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 6:14 PM, J. C.
