I don't wear a helmet when i bike, but i know i should be.

Any thing that can cushion the blow, should one fall, is a major help.

I wore a very basic helmet in hockey, when i first started out in
1964. It was just a few pieces of plastic and foam, looking some what
like rugby head gear. I had a nasty spill on the ice once and hit my
head hard. I'm sure it would have been worse had i not been wearing
it.

Only side effects were the need to join internet camera lists.

I also wore a goalie mask, as i was a goalie for around 12 years or so.
I suffered a bad eye injury in 1973. Hit square in the eye with a slap
shot. Had i not had that on, i'm sure i would have lost my sight.
