I remember very well my first driving experience in USA back in 2004,
when Adelheid and I went to GFM. I found the US traffic signs so
confusing because of their extensive use of words instead of symbols.
Reading does indeed take more time when you do not know what message
to expect. After the first couple of days, however, the signs began to
fall into familiar patterns and only quick glances were necessary.

It was a scary first couple of days, though... :-)
