Big condolence hugs! Poets can be so difficult :):)
Nice shot of Mark Smith -
The Green Mill ! boy that rings a bell but I'm not sure if I was ever
there... unless it
was a jazz club in the late 50's that I went to once with a friend who
had heard Ella
was going to perform. She didn't show. I think I was 18 or 19.
Didn't know you were into poetry... I'll write you off list on the subject
(I prefer mine on the page, though - just the term "poetry slam" makes
me bristle)

Well, what a f***ing, bl**dy miserable night of photography I just
had. I shot 79 frames--I say again, I shot 79 frames--and I only got
this one shot to show for it. Ugh! I fought with focus all night: I
couldn't even get the stone titties on the Greek statue to come out
sharp. Couldn't get any interesting expressions. And it was a great
night of poetry--lots of animated performance poets. Nothing went as
planned:
1) I wanted to get some nice shots of the famous Green Mill interior
for the our good PDML folks in and from Chicago--you know, a
neighborly gesture. Well, I've come up empty handed.
2) I wanted a good shot or two of two poets from Australia reading to
night--you know, a kind of international neighborly gesture. Well,
I've come up empty handed.
3) I wanted to show off my sister reading her poetry tonight--you
know, a kind of sibling promotional gesture. Well, I've come up empty
handed.
I think I'm glad I have a day job.
Anyway: This is Marc Smith, father of performance and slam poetry.
He's a really nice guy and lots of fun to watch and listen to.

Cheers, Christine
(Sorry for the vent! But I think I do feel a bit better now :-))
