Hi,

By "reasonable" I guess you mean fairly inexpensive and easy to find.
Pentax's M135/3.5 fits that nicely, it is fairly common, and seems to
sell for around $65.00 USD. I have one and like it quite well. You can
also look at the K135/2.5, which is less common and more spendy. Due to
the size and weight, I don't use mine as much as the M135/3.5, but it
really is a nicer lens. In the 105 range, there are the M and A
100/2.8's. I have no experience with those, but I have the K105/2.8
which is truly a joy to use. If you can find one, buy it. They turn up
rarely and is reputed to be the best lens in that range made by Pentax.
(probably excluding macros)

85mm is a nice focal lenght for portraiture too, but you did say
"reasonable". :-)

I don't know on your second question, but if the pictures taken by the
lens seem allright (except for vignetting) then I doubt that it would
have been reassembled improperly. More likely a design flaw in making
the filter size too small.

Hope this helps,

William in Utah.
