I plan on upgrading my backup/archive hardware to include a Drobo RAID unit. Four 500G or 1T drives in an internally multiply mirrored, automatically self-correcting device ... can't be too bad. I don't know a single Drobo RAID user that has anything but praise for these units. It's not cheap but the time and effort of my daily work is valuable too.

It will still not be my only backup, it will be adjunct to my current backup system.

I do make some DVD and CD archives too, usually by project for clients. But DVD and CD backups/archives are simply too much trouble to make, manage, and periodically verify. The clients use them, and how they manage the data delivered that way is not my business.

... ouch...

Charles, I understand your feelings. I'm up to re-scan a lot of stuff lost due to media failure, and right now I don't trust dvdr media enough to depend just on them. Guess I'll be using mirrored HDs eventually, but right now I can't afford. Unfortunately some of the older stuff is not where it should be... and many of the subjects aren't around anymore.
