I plan on upgrading my backup/archive hardware to include a Drobo RAID
unit. Four 500G or 1T drives in an internally multiply mirrored,
automatically self-correcting device ... can't be too bad. I don't know a
single Drobo RAID user that has anything but praise for these units. It's
not cheap but the time and effort of my daily work is valuable too.
So far, I'm pleased as can be with mine. I have 3x750G drives installed,
probably using 15% of the storage space. I don't keep it plugged in unless I
ab either backing something up or am searching for a file that I've taken
off my computer.
The only complaint I have, and apparently it's quite common is fan noise.
