I am using the older, non-macro on a DS (as in  Dark Side). It's a
very good lens. Compact, light, sharp and behaving very well against
strong backlight.
The only thing I might miss is the HSM/whateversonic AF drive.
The newer, macro version is said to be even better glass-wise.

But I might be just lucky with my sample - I also have first hand
experience with Sigma's inconsistent quality (recent example: the
50-150/2.8 plus a long story with Sigma's useless, rude and
incompetent official dealer/importer/service center here in Poland ).
