But you're old.

Yeah, but if I had to rely on old people printing pictures, my lab would be out of business.

I can't give you any HARD numbers, but I figure 90% of my business is females under the age of 25 printing off every photo they can cram into their memory cards. And boy, they can sure cram a lot of 'em in there.

I know I frequently rant about the quantity vs. quality of what they print, but they DO print. And they print enough to keep the corporation happy to keep the photo lab there.

That, and new parents printing baby photos. There ain't never enough baby photos. The big thing is internet printing. Mama & daddy out in California can go onto the internet and have the photos printed out in my lab here in Raleigh, NC for grandma to pick up.

But it's prints ... hard copy on paper that's in demand and pays the bills that keep the photo lab open.

Which in turn, keeps me there ... and makes the lab available when the "old people" come in to do something.

The most enjoyment I get from my job is when someone comes in with old prints, especially old 50s - 60s snapshots of their kids and wants to make prints for their "grown up" grandchildren.

Sometimes I think the equipment we have is just barely adequate for what it offers to do, but whatever algorithm the kiosks use for "Restore Color" works magic.

And it's magic to see how some of my customers light up when those old faded, shifted colors come to life once again.
