Absolutely, I should have included that. Both the Manfrotto 3021 and Feisol CT3442 I have are more than tall enough with zero column extension for 99% of my needs ... The Feisol allows me to use the tripod completely without a column if I so choose, but it's handy to have for vertical adjustment rather than having to move the legs.
The Manfrotto 190 is just a hair short, I usually end up working lower angles without column extension or pulling the column up by 2 inches or so (out of its total range of about 10 inches). It's a workable compromise.
