I do use one of those too. The problem with ball heads is it's rather difficult to control the adjustment on just one axis. ie I may only need to adjust the pitch. But correcting that could throw one, or both, of the other axis out. I've tried, but I usually ended up chasing my tail. That's why I stick to pan/tilt heads.
