No, you didn't make a mistake. I bought my K100Ds particularly for the low light sensitivity. Most of my pushing the limits shots are in this collection: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/collections/72157603434373350/ You'll see that a lot of them are done at a nominal correct exposure of ISO 3200, f/1.8 1/6 second. Another thing that the K100 is awesome for is to take a couple of flashes, put IR filters over them, and shoot IR strobe augmented photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/collections/72157603983302091/ It's very tricky because you've got to balance the focus point of IR with visible, and if you're close enough for there to be enough light from the IR strobes, you've got very little depth of field. But, if you can get it right, it's very cool to be able to use strobes to stop motion and not blind people.
