It isn't the sensor, it's the analog circuitry between the sensor and the Analog to Digital Converter. As I understand it, on the K100 they stop boosting the analog gain after 800 and do 1600 and 3200 with math. -- The fastest way to get your question answered on the net is to post the wrong answer.
