Binary is easy, just need to be able to count to 1.  But if the
explanation was too confusing, just go into a poorly lit room and do
some test exposures (in raw) as I listed below, process the results
and see what works for you.

It's really no different than learning a new film. You learn when
you're better off pushing, and better off shooting straight.
