John and Christine, That is quarried stone John sees, not cement. Chicago sits at the southwest corner of a huge lake (75 miles by 500 miles). Some beaches have quarried stone protecting the shore from erosion in storms. As a hardy Austalian, John sees the drill holes that helped pop the stone out. Good catch!
