Do you ever add a bit of flash?  At the Alligator Farm, I observed the
guys with really big lenses used some flash.  They had C'n/N'n rigs
with a small frensel lens attached to the flash.  Nothing very
elaborate - maybe a 3x6 lens held 6 inches from the flash head with a
bit of velcro or a rubber band.  I'll have to look for one
I came to appreciate what they were doing after looking at my backlit images.
