In the US driving schools or drivers education, (usually run by local secondary
schools), vehicles will have "Student Driver" spelled out in a black on yellow
sign, or sometimes a red and while illuminated sign.
I have noticed that signs in the US tend to be written sentences whereas in
Europe tend to be symbols...multilingual environment would be my hypothesis...
