Stores like Walmart and Sam's Club, the names of which you cleverly disguise in your post, aren't in the business of high-end merchandise. They carry a few fast-moving cameras for the soccer mom and t-ball dad set. It would be foolish of them to deal with low-volume advanced equipment.
The reason to buy from a local shop instead of a big box like B&H is to get service. Does anyone here really think that a Wal-Mart employee is going to be able to give knowledgable service for a DSLR? If you can't buy from a local real store, then go to one of the NYC stores that are online.
