I use a LaCrosse to charge my NIMH batteries (on Rob's recommendation of many years ago), and it is very effective. I use the NIMH batteries in my 540 flashes. However, when I was shooting with *istDs, I found the lithiums to be a far superior solution. Much more predictable, and with the battery grip, as may as 800 exposures. if you shoot large jobs, they're essential.

Really? They don't work well at all in the northern hemi. From what I've
been reading, anyway. :-)

As others have said reliability does depend upon the charger/battery
combo, I use the LeCrosse and have absolutely no issues WRT
reliability or effectiveness.
