I found the same thing with my *ist-D and Energizer batteries and charger. I was getting at most a few dozen shots with only occasional chimping. I switched to Duracell and they do last longer, but I still find they lose their charge after a couple of weeks in the bag. Maybe it's the charger, an ordinary Energizer bought with the original rechargeables, and I did notice how hot the batteries get. Maybe I should switch to something better(if I don't change cameras anyway)?

Really? They don't work well at all in the northern hemi. From what I've been reading, anyway. :-) Maybe they are better now. I bought my istD n 2003 and by sometime in 2005 I had given up on the things in favour of non rechargable Lithiums. I didn't have tha patience to cycle the things through a battery charger, continually charging set after set whether I was using them or not, and having dead batteries after leaving them sit for a month if I forgot to cycle a set. They left a pretty foul taste in my mouth.
