The new Beatles CDs are an improvement over the 1988 masterings but they couldnt resist and DID add a slight amount of "loudness" to the 2009 masterings according to the chief engineer. The same guy also admitted that good LPs sound better but CD is "all we have at this point" or something to that effect. there is an interview with him floating around the web about the Beatle CD remasters...
