I'm even later on this one, but I have a ScanWit 2700 which I use with
VueScan, and the combination produces very good results. As the name
implies, the files it produces are at 2700dpi, and the software generally
copes well with exposure variations: although some 40 year old Kodachromes I
scanned recently are showing a magenta cast, which is proving very hard to
eliminate.
I also acquired today a very small unit, branded Otek, which scans at
3600dpi, and does the scan in 0.5 seconds - not a typo! For a quick and
dirty scan for the web, that's very useful. At larger magnifications, the
image shows some faint banding, but that disappears at web resolution. It
takes an SD/MMC card for storage, and has a 32MB internal memory which can
be used if there is no card. Feed and operation are manual, and the slide
carrier only holds three slides, so it is not suitable for very large scan
jobs. The negative carrier will hold a strip of six, however, so that might
be more usable.

Recommended as backup for your main scanner, certainly.

It may be a bit late but I'll add my 2c worth in. Having owned and
used way too many scanners all I can say re the quality of the scan
that you linked to is that it's complete crap. You should be able to
obtain far better results from a dedicated film scanner that's well
over 10 years old.

Film scanning is tedious at best but it's not too difficult to get a
film image into the digital domain with good results. Like others have
suggested I would use the premium dedicated film scan service
suggested or simply save your pennies and look for a good value used
Nikon or Minolta film scanner. Spending money to get the results you
got is a waste of money.

Cheers,
