If the icons are stretched it's because the user has set the monitor to a non-widescreen resolution when using a widescreen monitor, if they're squished the opposite has happened. If it's an LCD, set the resolution to the maximum supported by the monitor, that gets rid of the fuzzies as well, LCD's run properly at a single resolution only.
